Minecraft Dungeons games cast you as a customizable hero rather than a named protagonist, and the sequel keeps that. The characters with names and roles in Dungeons II split into three groups: the villains running the plot, the villagers who run your town, and the animals that follow you into the field.
The Illager High Council
The villains are the story. From the launch presentation: after the first game's Arch-Illager fell, three illagers discovered the source of the mysterious soul power seeping into the world and used it to form the Illager High Council. Its named members:
| Member | Role as shown |
|---|---|
| Evoker | The summoner; the achievement list ties a summoned Copper Monstrosity to an Evoker |
| Enchanter | Tied to the enchanting-power theme; a "Prime Enchanter" appears as a named boss encounter |
| Illusioner | The third council member; the illusionist archetype, details not yet shown |
The council's plot is the soul corruption eating the Overworld, which the story has you trace through the rifts into The Sift. Where the corruption leads.
Your hero
Your hero is what you build. Pre-order artwork showed Alex and Steve-themed outfits among the hero skins, and the Deluxe Edition adds four more skins, but skins are cosmetic; power comes from gear, talismans and enchantments. The build systems.
The villagers of Brave Haven
The town's cast doubles as its systems: the merchant who upgrades her stock, the Enchant Smith who writes enchantments, and the blacksmith who reforges gear. Mojang gave them individual animations and personalities, and the campaign's first act is about getting them somewhere safe to live. Brave Haven itself.
Companions and pets
| Companion | How you get it |
|---|---|
| Wolf | In-game companion, summonable via play |
| Iron golem | In-game companion |
| Blub pet | Deluxe Edition bonus; a soul-saturated Sift creature |
| Twisted Chicken pet | Pre-order bonus; the glowing chicken in official screenshots |
Who or what is Malgosha?
Searches sometimes attach the name Malgosha to this game. That name belongs to the Minecraft Dungeons universe's adjacent media, not to a confirmed Dungeons II character; no official Dungeons II material names her. Treat any claim otherwise as confusion with other Minecraft media.
FAQ
Do I pick a class at the start?
No. There are no classes. Build identity comes from equipment, talismans and artifacts, all swappable as you play.
Can I play as an illager?
No playable illager role has been announced. The council members are antagonists.
Is the Arch-Illager back?
He was defeated at the end of the first game and is not announced for the sequel. The new threat is the council and the soul corruption.
